About CIM

The Institute participates in a Joint Music Program with Case Western Reserve University that allows college students to take advantage of an outstanding liberal arts education. A close relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra is also maintained, with 35 members of the Orchestra serving on the CIM faculty. Thirty-seven CIM alumni now hold positions with the Orchestra.

Community involvement takes a premier position at CIM, with the efforts of the Youth & Adult Studies Division. More than 1,500 young people and adults take lessons throughout the year. The outstanding faculty boast many years of experience, offering private lessons in all instruments, voice and music theory.

The musical and personal development of students in the Young Artist Program (high school students in grades 11 and 12 intent upon a musical career), Junior Young Artist Program (students in grades 7 through 10 who have demonstrated strong musical abilities at an early age and who exhibit focus and purpose), the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies, the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony (Northeast Ohio's finest high school band performers), Beginning and Preparatory String Orchestras, Youth String Camerata and CIM Chamber Music are all supported by this division.

During the summer, students can take private lessons, enjoy Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes, attend Summer Sonata, CIM Summer Chamber Music or the Young Composers Program.

Technology allows CIM to expand its reach beyond local boundaries. Distance Learning programs connect in real time to teachers and students around the world through high-speed videoconferencing technology. The Distance Learning department has distinguished itself as a leader in creating and delivering engaging content for a variety of educational applications. Interdisciplinary programs use music to help students and teachers at the K-12 level improve skills in math, science, language arts and history.

At CIM we believe that music enhances lives and is a gift to be shared with the community. Our conservatory students and faculty mentor and teach at the Cleveland School of the Arts and other schools. The Institute presents hands-on demonstrations and concerts at schools, hospitals, retirement communities and other venues throughout the region.
